The Main Problem with Scripture

Here lies the main problem with scripture.

If God is JUST, how can He parden guilty sinners?

So what is sin? The Bible says in 1 John 3:4 ''sin is transgression of the Law''. What is the ''law''? The law is God's law or better known as the ''10 Commandments''.

Let us go through a few of the 10 Commandments.

Have you ever told a lie, stolen anything, or used God's name in vain? Jesus said, ''Whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has committed adultery in his heart.'' Have you looked with lust? If we are honest with ourselves, we see that everyone is guilty of breaking God's Law. This lines up with what the Bible says in Romans 3:23 '' all have sinned and fall short'' and that humankind is corrupt. Psalms 14:3 says ''there is none that does good, no, not one''. We are all GUILTY! That brings us back to the PROBLEM WITH SCRIPTURE.

Exodus 34: 6 -7: Then the Lord passed by in front of him and proclaimed, ''The Lord, the Lord God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth; who keeps lovingkindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity, transgression and sin; yet He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished,''

Job 10:14: ''If I sin, then You would take note of me, and would not acquit me of my guilt.''

According to these verses, God will have to punish sinners or He is not just. Keep these in mind as you read the following verses.

Proverbs 17:15: ''He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the righteous, both of them alike are an abomination to the Lord.''

Romans 3:23-25: ''for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed;''

Romans 4:7-8: Blessed are those whose lawless deeds have been forgiven, and whose sins have been covered. “Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will not take into account.”

We just read verses that said our sins will not go unpunished. Now we read these verses that say the opposite. How can God be just, holy and righteous, but not judge sin? Let's examine this by first defining the word ''propitiation'' used in Romans 3:24 above.

propitiation = translated expiation (the wiping away of sin) refers to the satisfaction or appeasement of God's wrath through sacrifice.

Qualifications of this ''propitiation''

1. He must be God. Jonah 2:9 ''salvation is of the Lord'

2. Only God can endure the wrath of God and rise again. Psalms 90:11, Nahum 1:6

3. Only God is of sufficiant worth to redeem. Psalms 49:7-8

4. Only God is worthy of trust Jerimiah 17:9

5. Godman-must be able to put His hand on God and man knowing fully both.

1 Peter 1:18-19: ''knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ''

God is just because He justified the wicked through His son, Jesus Christ, the Godman. Christ became sin, a curse, for us. What does it mean to become sin or under the curse of God? It means that you are so wretched, so defiled, so vile before a Holy God that on the day you die and take your first step into Hell the last thing you will hear is all of creation rejoicing that God has rid the earth of you. Consider this dialogue made in eternity between God and the Son.

''The Fathers Bargain'' by Jon Flavel

Here you may suppose the Father to say, when driving his bargain with Christ for you.

Father: My son, here is a company of poor miserable souls, that have utterly undone themselves, and now lie open to my justice! Justice demands satisfaction for them, or will satisfy itself in the eternal ruin of them. What shall be done for these souls? And thus Christ returns.

Son: O my Father, such is my love to, and pity for them, that rather than they shall perish eternally, I will be responsible for them as their Surety; bring in all thy bills, that I may see what they owe thee; Lord, bring them all in, that there may be no after-reckonings with them; at my hand shalt thou require it. I will rather choose to suffer thy wrath than they should suffer it: upon me, my Father, upon me be all their debt.

Father: But, my Son, if thou undertake for them, thou must reckon to pay the last mite, expect no abatements; if I spare them, I will not spare thee.

Son: Content, Father, let it be so; charge it all upon me, I am able to discharge it: and though it prove a kind of undoing to me, though it impoverish all my riches, empty all my treasures, (for so indeed it did, 2 Cor. 8:9 ''Though he was rich, yet for our sakes he became poor”) yet I am content to undertake it.''

You see Christ became and abomination to the Father and was crushed under His wrath for your sin. Don't reject Christ. Repent, turn away from your sins, apologize to God for being a rebel. Then have Faith that He will save you from the wrath to come. We are not promised tomorrow so don't wait. Then read your Bible daily, obey it, and find out what God has in store for you.

''Christ is the Way, the Truth and the Life, no one comes to the Father except through Him.''
